For the sake of progress, humans are willing to do many things!

In her exhibition in the Halle für Kunst, Doreen Garner addresses the inhumane, even contemptuous treatment of bodies of deceased slaves in the USA in the 19th century. It need not be said that the entire arrogance of the Europeans with their ideas of world domination and colonialism is involved here.

Medical schools secretly plundered cemeteries of the black population in order to have enough corpses for dissection in their lecture halls. Gardner puts these abuses into the picture in large-scale installations that shake you to the core.
As if on a meat hook, there hang the body parts that were supposed to benefit the white man’s well-being. And in the midst of all the disgust, beads spill out and break the entire image and perception.

Torn between fascination and horror, one remains lost in thought. Humanity, what are you willing to do?
