\nDie Schule des Wir im Annenviertel, Graz.<\/h3>\n

How does a “we” come into being? The project “The School of We” takes place in cooperation with <rotor>, at five places in the Annenviertel, in the districts of Gries and Lend and asks about connections and relationships of the common.<\/p>\n

How does a “we” actually come into being? What relationships and networks are behind it in a district? What promotes conviviality, a living together based on relationships and cooperation? The art and culture project “The School of We” takes place in the surroundings of the Annenviertel at five places as well as in the premises of the art center < rotor >. Outdoors, artists will create “islands of lingering” at each of the sites.\u00a0 They will be offered for use to all residents of Graz and guests in the city. They can be used as seating furniture, as a place to lie down, for picnics, to meet friends, as a playground.<\/p>\n

There will be places to stay, to get together, for idleness, but also for reflection, inspiration or simply relaxation – and as soon as it is possible again, also places for organized events!<\/p>\n

“The School of We” is inspired by numerous thinkers and practitioners. At this point, the Berlin-based Matthias Heyden should be mentioned in particular, who introduced the phrase ‘school\u02bb of the we in a text on urban commons. Thinking about commons and community in the city beyond all logic of market and state then also leads further to comunalidad. This is a term coined collectively by indigenous intellectuals from Mexico that combines both the commons and the community.<\/p>\n

Now it is no coincidence that another authoritative term also originated in Mexico, the conviviality already mentioned.\u00a0After all, various pioneering forms of living together have been developed in this Latin American country that radiate throughout the world.<\/p>\n

In the premises of < rotor > in Volksgartenstra\u00dfe, spaces designed by artists* will be on view, or rather, experienced, as part of The School of Us. For there will be a special focus on perception through all the senses, some of which have been repressed in times of pandemic.<\/p>\n

“The School of We” is conceived as a sphere of learning, unlearning and continuing to learn. Thinking about and experimenting with forms of living together in solidarity is intended to broaden the horizons of what can be imagined.<\/p>\n

And this happens in a time marked by upheavals and unpredictability. “The School of We”, in view of this, refers to models that allow the unexpected to emerge as a formative element alongside the unambiguous and defined.<\/p>\n
