Avant-garde border junction between art and architecture: the group of architects \u201cMissing Link\u201d researched the missing connections between men and architecture as early as in the 1970s.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The problem is still chronic today: there are numerous talented young architects who come from universities. But (almost) only the established are allowed to build. What is initially perceived as a lack has at the same time led to a far-reaching reinterpretation of the role of architecture and architects in society. Many architects began to experiment and research in fields of action that were not part of the \u201ctraditional\u201d tasks of architects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In Vienna in the 1970s, the architectural collective \u201cMissing Link\u201d was one of these groups, whose desire was to reflect on new concepts of spatiality and to incorporate the influences of pop culture to new interpretation models of possible social and socio-cultural coexistence into their artistic and architectural practice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With its performances, film projects and urban investigations, \u201cMissing Link\u201d broke with traditional ways of looking at built and developed space and thus, among other things, drew more attention to the relationship between men and architecture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Most of the works of \u201cMissing Link\u201d were created in a collective practice of collaboration between the individual members of this group, which in the 1970s and 1980s included architects such as Angela Hareiter, Otto Kapfinger and Adolf Krischanitz.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When they were still students, they were already dealing with questions of possibilities to intervene in a static urban landscape whose defining structures date back to the 19th century in a behaviouristic way and through \u2013 sometimes temporary \u2013 interventions in the structures and textures of a built city. They explored opportunities for action outside of traditional fields of architecture. The group went in search of the \u201cmissing link\u201d between architecture, space and people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An exhibition at the MAK with an extensive accompanying program is dedicated to the group\u2019s work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
