The Japanese artist’s installation in the former assembly hall of the Kunstraum Dornbirn was developed directly from the architecture of the exhibition space. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In her multimedia work, Shiota processes her own story, personal experiences and emotions, trauma and fears, which reveal the basic human need for belonging and security. There is no one without the other. The artistic approach to expressing the contradictions of human existence has a reactive effect on the audience: Shiota’s formal language touches people intensively, globally and across generations. She connects with their stories and makes it possible to experience the collective in a personal way. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In her world-famous installations and environments, the artist develops finely divided, fabric-like spaces made of threads, connected to collected objects such as keys, letters, or suitcases. This labour-intensive tension seems like a translation of the drawn line into three-dimensional, physically perceptible space. Each work is adapted to the respective room and so each presentation can be experienced uniquely in the here and now. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The space is the starting and ending point of the works, without which they neither exist nor endure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
