The American artist&#8217;s gestural-expressive painting was guided by intuitive impulses and concepts of inwardness as well as by an engagement with political themes. With this exhibition, the Kunstforum Wien presents the work of an important representative of Abstract Expressionism, that monumental gestural painting that began in the 1940s and is regarded as the first original American art of the post-war period.
