It is feared, it is loved, it divides society: the wolf. Since its return to the densely populated cultural landscapes of Central Europe, it is once again perceived as a threat – and fought against.
The idea of the “evil” wolf has a long cultural and historical tradition in Europe, dating back to antiquity and overlaying its significance as a spiritual being, power animal and bearer of myths.
The exhibition – curated by Dr Mona Horncastle – shows not only the cultural-historical significance of the wolf, but also its socio-historical relevance as a cultural follower. From a scientific point of view, the view of the predator as a regulator of the wild animal population and nature is just as interesting as the aspects of herd protection and functioning wolf management. Artistic positions flank the respective thematic complexes and show the perception of the wolf between fascination and horror in our socio-political debate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
