The Austrian Cultural Forum London has numerous exhibitions, concerts and other cultural events in its programme for the new year.
One of the focal points: the significance of the Holocaust in Austria.
Based on current research findings, The Vienna Model of Radicalisation. Austria and the Shoah highlights Vienna’s role as a gateway for the radicalisation of anti-Semitic politics in the Nazi state. The “Vienna Model” – a term coined by historian Hans Safrian – included the accelerated policy of expropriation and expulsion in Austria. The Central Office for Jewish Emigration set up by Adolf Eichmann in 1938 developed an organisational model for the deportation of the Jewish population to ghettos, extermination camps and killing centres in 1941.
The exhibition shows Jewish self-help and acts of resistance by courageous individuals. It pays tribute to the United Kingdom, the USA and other countries that gave refuge to Jewish refugees. It sheds light on the silence about the Holocaust in post-war Austria, a silence from which the perpetrators profited.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
