The Museum Kunst der Verlorenen Generation specialises in 20th century artists who were defamed, persecuted and forgotten during National Socialism.
BEYOND BECKMANN. From the Master Class to the B\u00f6hme Collection is the first exhibition dedicated to twelve artists of the Master Class in an Austrian art museum. The collection contains a total of 101 works from the master class. Of these, around 40 representative works tell the story of their lives beyond Beckmann to the B\u00f6hme Collection.
The students from Max Beckmann’s master class (1925-1933) were among the most promising talents of the Frankfurt art school (also known as the “St\u00e4delschule”). Nevertheless, they are little known today. Their careers were overshadowed in many ways during the 20th century: the great name of their teacher, censorship and defamation by the National Socialists and the destruction of their works during the Second World War. These circumstances continue to influence the cultural visibility of an entire generation to this day.
On display in the exhibition curated by Marie-Christin Gebhardt are works by Carla Brill, Inge Hergenhahn-Dinand, Theo Garve, Ottokar Gr\u00e4bner, Georg Heck, Anna Kr\u00fcger, Leo Maillet, Friedrich Wilhelm Meyer, Marie-Louise von Motesiczky, Alfred Nungesser, Heinrich Friedrich Steiauf and Karl Tratt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
