In doing so, she consistently pursues a critical feminist agenda in a field long considered the patriarchal domain par excellence, which she brilliantly manipulates using a variety of painterly strategies. The images of Sue Williams unfold their genuine power in the simultaneity of the personal and the political, of humorous caricature, almost shocking explicitness, and painterly gesture.
