Inside the building and on the forecourt, around 50 images interweave its history with photographs by Rathmayr. Combined with historical archive material, this creates a multi-layered reflection on the swimming pool at Reumannplatz, its neighbourhood and \u2018Red Vienna\u2019. Opened on 8 July 1926, the baths were considered at the time to be the most modern and luxurious indoor swimming pool in Europe. It was conceived as a place of social equality, designed to provide access to hygiene, leisure and health across class boundaries. Michael Rathmayr highlights the significance of the swimming pool as an architectural monument to \u2018Red Vienna\u2019 \u2013 and as the vibrant social organism that it remains to this day. He has produced detailed studies of the building\u2019s Art Deco elements, portraits of its current users and research into its origins. The images of the swimming pools, architectural details, main rooms and back rooms explore the building\u2019s current state. Rathmayr combines these with findings from his research in the district and city archives.
