Her projects \u2013 most of which are realised over long periods of time \u2013 focus on questions arising from a perspective on the world that is as much one of photographic documentation as it is of anthropological inquiry. The portrait serves as the recurring aesthetic and medium-specific starting point for artistic experiments that explore the possibilities of engaging in complex social discourses through photographic means. For Mafalda Rako\u0161, the image of the Other emerges through an expansion of perspective. Through dialogue with her protagonists and co-authors, she transcends the literary, academic and artistic tradition of first-person narration.
