The exhibition shows photographs that reflect Morath’s life and work in the United States and Great Britain. Inge Morath, born in Graz, began her career as a journalist in Salzburg before moving to Paris in 1949. There she initially worked as a copywriter for the legendary Magnum photo agency before becoming a photographer for Magnum in 1953. She was the first woman to be accepted into the agency’s prestigious circle. Inge Morath travelled through Europe, Africa, Asia and America for her photographs. She became particularly well known for her portraits of celebrities such as Marilyn Monroe, Jean Cocteau, Alberto Giacometti and Louise Bourgeois. Her works have appeared in leading magazines such as Life, Paris Match and Vogue and are now represented in renowned collections, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
