The exhibition is dedicated to the analogue photographic works of Klaus Mähring, who was born in Graz and studied under Friedl Kubelka, Margaretha Spiluttini and Franz West at the School for Artistic Photography in Vienna. He mainly works with old, partly expired colour negative films and aims to counterbalance the prevailing flood of images by using his analogue large-format cameras. ‘I pause when I sense elements that appeal to me; I unpack the camera when I sense an opportunity to bring these elements together in a section. If the image on the screen corresponds to these feelings and intuitions, I expose a film. Finally, in the cosy darkness of the laboratory, this almost somnambulistic process ends in images beyond our reality,’ says Mähring.
