The exhibition two dots one line by Austrian conceptual artist Ernst Caramelle, curated by Dr Stephanie Buhmann, offers a comprehensive insight into Caramelle’s work spanning five decades – from works on paper, video installations and publications to his well-known gesso and sun paintings. A particular highlight is a new, site-specific work inspired by the striking architecture of the New York Cultural Forum. Caramelle combines intellectual precision with playful lightness, and repeatedly poses the question in his work: ‘What is art?’ Using simple geometric shapes, transparency and colour, he creates works that invite reflection on the artistic process.
