Manfred Grübl’s work, characterised by a multimedia creative process, skilfully combines different media such as photography, video, performance and drawing. His works are usually based on a political and system-critical stance.
In his exhibition at Bildraum 01, Manfred Grübl examines how economic structures and power relations affect the freedom of the individual and society. In his multimedia assemblage, the artist creates a system-critical tableau of capitalist symbolism. With the exhibition title and simultaneous title of the work, Neoliberalism comes from Vienna, Grübl refers to the considerable influence of Austrian economic theorists Ludwig Heinrich von Mises and Friedrich August von Hayek on our current economic system. In the eponymous work at the centre of the exhibition, he meticulously dissects the capitalist balance of power in a six-metre-long frieze and takes us on a journey through the history of the development of the most important parameters and symbols of neoliberalism.
