Innsbruck-born Bernd Oppl is one of the established positions within contemporary art that deal with the interfaces between architecture, subjective perception and media reality. His works – sculptural models, video installations and hybrid displays – examine how spaces can have a narrative or action-determining effect. In Strange Loops in Bildraum Bodensee, Oppl creates constellations of sound, image and object in which real, virtual and imagined spaces merge into one another. At the centre are transformations and questions about the permeability of space and subject. The loop that gives the exhibition its title refers to recursive structures and to being thrown back on one’s own patterns of perception and imprints.
The exhibition Strange Loops brings together acoustic textures, visual illusions and spatial dislocation. In Bildraum Bodensee, Bernd Oppl creates a system of feedback and superimpositions – a sensorium for intermediate states in which reality and our perception seem to liquefy.
