The photo exhibition ‘Structures of Flow’ focuses on asphalt, concrete and steel – the most frequently used materials in our social metabolism; it is dedicated to infrastructure as the silent foundation of our civilisation. Two conceptual works form the centre of the exhibition. They present bridges and traffic areas as functional and symbolic interfaces. They thematise transitions and connections in urban and rural contexts. Another focus is on the interaction between infrastructure and landscape. The works illuminate how these structural elements are embedded in natural and designed environments and thus characterise the appearance and character of the landscape. Tom Biela works as an interdisciplinary bricoleur in the fields of art, photography and architecture: Art, photography and architecture. Collections form the basis for his work. Observations from everyday life provide the impetus. Conceptual series emerge from material experiments and analyses.
