In recent years in particular, one gets the impression that war is omnipresent, but war has been a sad reality for as long as people have remembered. Artistic realisations of this unfortunately all too topical subject have been and continue to be diverse. An important aspect in the selection of artworks was to avoid explicit depictions of the horrors of war – we are inundated with the most terrible images in all media on a daily basis. To this end, curator Roland Haas looked far beyond our national borders for artists from regions that are or were affected and who deal with the subject in a relatively cautious and subtle way: Olesia Grygoruk (UA), Sudi Khonssari (IR), Inna Shevchenko (UA) & Elsa Okazaki (F, A), Anastasiya Yarovenko (UA) and Anna Zvyagintseva (UA). Five other exciting positions come from Austria: Tom Eller, Zenita Komad, Isabella S. Minichmair, Christian Moisl and Iv Toshain.
