How can museums engage with the present – in particular, how can they collect and preserve the present and make it accessible to future generations? This is the subject of controversial debate. Not only unique treasures, but especially everyday objects, provide deep insights into the world of values and the reality of people’s lives. Since autumn 2024, twelve students from the HBLA for Artistic Design in Linz have been exploring the museum and its collections in guided workshops, excursions to the museum depots and collections and in lessons. Based on individual objects from the collection or issues relating to the museum, the students are developing their own artistic objects and installations, which are intended to challenge viewers in a critical, analytical and playful way and link the past and present.
