With its current exhibition, the Kunsthaus Bregenz is presenting an extraordinary artistic dialogue: Works by the British-Kenyan painter Michael Armitage, the Austrian painter, graphic artist and filmmaker Maria Lassnig and the Kenyan artist Chelenge Van Rampelberg are presented in the foyer. Chelenge Van Rampelberg, like Armitage born in Kenya, is represented in the exhibition with woodcuts and sculptures made of wood. Drawings by Maria Lassnig (1919-2014) will be on display, which – like her paintings – look inwards. In Michael Armitage’s watercolours, pain and political tensions are juxtaposed with great tenderness, especially towards animals. The exhibition, curated together with Michael Armitage, is being organised in collaboration with the Maria Lassnig Foundation in Vienna and the Nairobi Contemporary Art Institute (NCAI).
