Once again this year, the Calle Libre Festival will transform Vienna into a colourful open-air gallery. This year’s focus district is Meidling – with walls being painted live. As usual, the festival will be accompanied by a varied supporting programme. The theme of Calle Libre 2025 is ‘Youtopia’ – a portmanteau of “you” and ‘utopia’. The festival invites artists and visitors alike to reflect on and visualise their personal vision of a better future. In the midst of global challenges, ‘Youtopia’ offers space for hope, courage and creative visions of the future, which are reflected in the murals. The designs are spread across various walls throughout Meidling, including mainly Wiener Wohnen municipal buildings. The artistic contributions come from both local artists and international stars. Interested parties can watch the artists at work on the wall and experience live how works of art measuring up to 300 square metres are created in just a few days. In addition to the murals, a colourful supporting programme will be offered as usual throughout the festival period. In street art workshops, visitors will be able to pick up a spray can themselves while being accompanied on guided tours to both well-known and hidden gems of urban art. In addition, a lively festival centre will be created under the motto ‘Street art meets street food’ in cooperation with the Meidling food hall Gleis//Garten: the opening and closing of the festival and many other programme items will take place here, where art, cuisine and community meet.
