Andrea Scrima, the New York City-born artist, like many Americans of her generation, grew up with the ‘Saturday Morning Cartoons’. For several years now, she has been exploring the violence encoded in the comics in her ‘Loopy Loonies’ series. During her time as Graz city writer, she wrote texts to accompany the drawings, which continue their moral-critical analyses. In the exhibition at the QL Gallery, the texts, which Scrima understands as an affirmation of language based on the reconstruction of the meaning of individual terms, stand alongside the drawings. Texts about the misuse of language, increasing violence and the manipulation of emotions invite visitors to think further and can be taken home in card editions. The artist will also be reading from her essays as part of the exhibition.
