Alessandro Del Pero creates zones of psychological condensation amid the media’s overproduction of images. His paintings raise questions about the self, about presence, and about the conditions of contemporary painting. His powdery, rough application of paint carries the pigment deep into figures whose anatomy reveals what can hardly be put into words: tense muscles, protruding tendons and contorted limbs bear witness to the unlived, the animalistic and the psychologically unresolved. In Allzumenschlich, Del Pero becomes a chronicler of inner divisions, his bodies a scene of pain, anger, resistance and longing. In the existential loneliness of his figures, Del Pero’s critique of a digital world of appearances intensifies – of standardised visibility, of the simulation of connectedness and of a state in which reality slips away just as much as the other person.
