Sustainability is becoming increasingly important; unfortunately, too many resources are still being wasted and ending up in the rubbish – including food. But there is potential in what we throw away: for transformation, for remembrance, for a new beginning. Camilla Alberti’s installation Feeding the Ghost emerges from an exploration of the transformative power of matter and questions its role in redefining our relationship with others and with the world. Her artistic practice refers to ancient ritual traditions in which decay is not considered worthless, but rather a carrier of knowledge – an approach that is gaining new urgency today. For Feeding the Ghost, she processes organic waste such as shells, roots, coffee grounds and seeds. Cooked, burned and pulverised, these are transformed into pigments, pastes and natural binding agents. Together with leaves, flowers and fruits, they are used to creating fragile forms between nature, body and memory. The exhibition Feeding the Ghost – curated by Katia Huemer – takes place on the occasion of the presentation of the Environmental Art Prize by the Kunsthaus Graz, which is being awarded for the first time in cooperation with the City of Graz and the Market of the Future 2025.
