Born in Belgrade, Marina Abramović is one of the most important contemporary artists. She is considered the founder of modern performance art and has made art history with her legendary performances. Beginning in Belgrade in the early 1970s, she has established performance art as a form of visual art over the course of her more than 50-year career. The exhibition offers a comprehensive overview of the artist’s work. As the focal point of the presentation at the Albertina Modern, reenactments of the historical performances will be shown daily throughout the entire duration of the exhibition. Performance art has a long tradition in Vienna, with Actionism being its best-known form. The exhibition, curated by Bettina M. Busse, is a collaboration between the Royal Academy of Arts, London, the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, the Kunsthaus Zürich, the Bank Austria Kunstforum Wien and the Albertina, Vienna. It was created in close collaboration with the artist.
