Architect Gerhard Garstenauer (1925–2016) would have turned 100 this year – an anniversary that calls for a detailed tribute. Gerhard Garstenauer (1925–2016) undoubtedly ranks high on any list of Austria’s most important architects, at least as far as the second half of the 20th century is concerned. And even though his architectural work, with a few exceptions, is limited to the city and province of Salzburg, it has been and continues to be recognised nationally and internationally as outstanding. In 2024, a scientific symposium was held, the contributions and results of which are incorporated into an exhibition curated by Leon Beu, Peter Husty, Peter Lechner, Julian Mändl and Erich Steiner, which the Salzburg Museum is showing as a guest exhibition in the Architecture Initiative.
