Artist Carlos Barrera Reyes has been working with indigenous weavers in Oaxaca and Chiapas for more than fifteen years. In jointly organised dyeing workshops, traditional dyeing techniques are revived and enriched with new techniques. The vibrant colours of the woven textiles in this exhibition reflect years of research, collaboration, exchange and experimentation. The project is a visual and sensory tribute to the rich textile heritage of indigenous communities. At the same time, the raw materials testify to the natural abundance and diversity of the region. The project highlights the interplay of traditional and contemporary dyeing practices, ecological awareness and artistic collaboration. The exhibition also focuses on current fashion trends and the impact of social media on trade within these communities.
