The Medenine International Documentary and Short Film Festival in Tunisia is organised by the Association Vision pour la Culture et le Développement à Medenine – Tunisie. The association is dedicated to promoting artistic, cultural and developmental activities, including through the establishment of partnerships and collaborations with filmmakers and film institutions from all participating countries. The 2023 work by Austrian filmmaker Bernhard Hetzenauer is the impressive account of a survivor, Germán López Rosales from Mexico, about human smuggling from Laredo, Texas to San Antonio. The film describes the brutal reality and dangers of illegal migration and human trafficking. THOSE NEXT TO US has received several honourable mentions from juries at international film festivals and has been screened at Diagonale Graz, Crossing Europe Linz and Vienna Shorts, among others.
