Our bodies communicate every day through gestures, facial expressions and other forms of physical expression. Consciously and unconsciously, they convey countless messages embedded in social and political contexts: they show what we want to express and enable free, individual self-expression. At the same time, however, our bodies are perceived and evaluated by others. The exhibition, curated by Katharina Ehrl, brings together artists who critically engage with the social norms and ideals of our society. In the works on display, representations of the body become a mirror and a central arena for social debate. The artists show in very different ways how they want to give voice to the desire and right to freedom and self-determination over their own bodies.
