Since colonial times, the Democratic Republic of Congo has been confronted with exploitative structures. These forms of ‘extractivism’ have multiplied and affect not only natural resources, but also cultural identity and the collective psyche. Curated by Prisca Tankwey and Paulvi Ngimbi, the exhibition focuses on the construction of ‘time’ and ‘space’ – categories that have always been defined by those in power. Various artists were invited to explore this theme and highlight the effects of extractivism on Congolese identity from different perspectives.
