The project is also a powerful reminder that maintaining a balance between humans and nature is essential for collective survival. Although the issues Arsyad explores are specific to Indonesia, they transcend geographical boundaries and convey a universal message that is highly relevant to today’s world. Indah Arsyad’s solo exhibition arose from her deep concern about climate change and environmental pollution, which threaten life on Earth. In her works, Arsyad breathes new life into the symbols of ancient Javanese mythology and culture – wayang, gamelan and traditional songs. This is based on scientific data that she compiles using state-of-the-art technologies. The result is compositions of light, sound and movement that absorb and reinforce knowledge of local traditions. For Arsyad, this knowledge is the driving force behind harmony and ecological sustainability.
