The exhibition Tracing Islands at Schaumbad brings together the final projects of seventeen 2025 graduates of the photography department at Ortweinschule. The works developed during their training reflect artistic positions, individual approaches and diverse relationships to the photographic image. Each work opens up its own spectrum of questions, whether formal, content-related or personal, so that the exhibited works offer a multi-layered representation of what young photography can be today – critical, experimental and reflective. The title Tracing Islands refers to drawing connections between positions that at first glance appear separate or far apart. Like islands whose shapes change with the tides, these artistic practices also remain in motion – they are constantly being redefined by time and context. Tracing them means engaging in a process that resembles photography itself: a process of observing, connecting and marking what is visible at the moment.
