The first International Human Rights Film Festival in Vienna – This Human World is a platform for cinematic and critical discourse, a place for encounters and dialogue, a meeting place for young, innovative local and international filmmakers. This Human World presents outstanding documentaries and feature films, short films, animated films and experimental films that deal with human rights issues in one way or another. These are films that encourage questioning and reflection, films that advocate for human rights, and films that expose systems in which human rights are violated. In addition, the festival programme includes lectures, workshops, talks, panel discussions and performances. The festival’s annual competition programme showcases films that raise awareness of human rights issues outside the mainstream. Films in all categories are eligible to apply: feature films, documentaries, animated and experimental films, and short films produced after 1 January 2024. The films shown will be presented in an international competition programme consisting of four different sections and a series of thematic focuses curated by the festival team, NGOs and partner festivals.
