The exhibition deals with a topic that is far too often ignored: depression. The images show the ‘dark thoughts’ of depressed people – translated into gloomy black-and-white photographs. Dieter Bornemann himself was confronted with the effects of the illness in his personal environment at a young age. The strong vignetting of the images represents the severely limited and narrowed view of reality that accompanies this illness. The photographs are not only intended to be a purely artistic exploration of this topic, but also, with accompanying texts, to provide guidance and information for those affected or their relatives.
