Austrian mountaineer Martin Sieberer is the guest of honour at this year’s Bansko Mountain Film Festival. He is one of the most promising climbers and mountaineers of the new generation, an IFMGA mountain guide and author of several first ascents in Pakistan and other parts of the world. Martin Sieberer discovered climbing at the age of about 25. But this late discovery quickly developed into a passion that is now an integral part of his identity, just as Martin is an integral part of modern alpinism. In addition to the presentation of Martin Sieberer, the Austrian Cultural Forum Sofia is also supporting the screening of other Austrian films in the competition and retrospective programme. The short films La Cimota – mein innerer Berg (La Cimota – My Inner Mountain), 2025, 5 min. (Director: Johannes Aitzetmüller); Hungry Gravity, 2024, 17 min. (Director: Bernhard Braun), Girl Climber, 2025, 1 hr. 23 min. (Director: Jon Glassberg) and GOLD, 2025, approx. 10 min. (Director: Paul Schweller), as well as B.I.G. – A World First, 2024, 54 min. (director: Johannes Mair) and the Austrian-Japanese co-production Fomo, 2025, 8 min. by Bastian Meier will be part of the festival programme.
