A roof tile dreams of being side by side with a like-minded being. It knows only the roof, the height, the order of the rows. And the fish? The fish loves the water – no more, no less. The roof tile is above us and receives freshly fallen water, which we try to guard against. The fish, on the other hand, always relies on the current that is first diverted by the roof tile and looks forward to the freshness that flows in with it. But to unite the two, must we think about what separates them? What if they could find each other? Should the fish go up, through pipes and gutters? Or should the roof tile come down, dissolved from its given order? Both seem impossible, and yet they dream of each other: the tile of the unexpected fish, the fish of the beautiful roof.
Kaleb Christian, Timo-Luca Pfeifer, Flora Schmid and Nino Sinzinger use precisely this tension to reconnect materials, structures and narrative styles.
