Erwin Polanc, an artist born in Carinthia who lives and works in Graz, has a look into the darkness: into the ultramarine blue hostile architecture of a shopping centre’s underground car park or, at nightfall, into a stream landscape with birch trees. With his research on the fringes of darkness, Erwin Polanc explores the possibilities of digital photography: what new visibilities are possible here – and how does the digital image change perception, indeed the very concept of the image?
