Impressive landscape depictions — in the form of large-format wallpaper and a video installation — enter into dialogue with intimate portraits. They tell of human self-empowerment, resilience and a unique relationship with the environment — in the face of a dynamic and sometimes violent nature. The exhibition features photographs taken in Iceland in 2016 during the artistic encounter between Katja Hasenöhrl and Lorena Sendic Silvera. The two were captivated by Iceland’s rugged volcanic landscape. Exposing oneself to this elemental nature is akin to catharsis. Natural forces — destruction — rebirth — new life stand side by side here, inevitably interconnected and reminiscent of the origins of our earth. Questions of gender, equality and self-empowerment in interplay with the harshness and beauty of Iceland’s landscape guided Lorena Sendic Silvera and Katja Hasenöhrl on their journey.
