Philipp Leissing and Sophie Dvořák bring their works together at Bildraum Bodensee, drawing on numerous overlaps in their thinking about form, colour, material and abstraction. They place them side by side, allowing them to communicate with each other and raise questions. Through measuring, transferring, mapping and reforming, a dialogue emerges that offers fewer answers than it opens up possibilities. In both positions, the material becomes an active component of the work, helping to shape forms, references and interpretations. What can a pale yellow rectangle stand for, and what about a blue one? Lines, precision, errors. Maps, packaging, plaster, paper, time. Is a lake an object? Both Dvořák’s and Leissing’s works reveal the aesthetic surfaces while emptying them of their power. They dissect abstract forms from their abstract environment. They pour, scrape, erase, dissolve and rebuild. By extracting essential components, the forms can be read differently. Their original assertions fall away – yet continue to resonate.
