Under the title ‘Universal thoughts – Omnipresence’, photographer and object artist Georg Petermichl provides an insight into his current work as part of the first exhibition under the new programme director of the Bludenz art space Remise, artist, graphic designer and curator Christine Lederer. Petermichl is exhibiting photographic works and ceramic objects in which he explores social and biographical themes. The artist, who studied photography with Eva Schlegel and Matthias Herrmann at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna, is known for transforming everyday objects and consumer goods in his works and for exploring the significance of collecting cultural goods – such as plastic bags – as a strategy of accumulative self-expression, purchasing power and leisure behaviour among the educated middle classes. He questions the role of photography, which focuses on social and biographical themes, as a medium that both stabilises and analyses society.
