Erwin Wurm is one of Austria’s most internationally renowned artists. His work is inextricably linked to the ‘expansion of the concept of sculpture’. Erwin Wurm rethinks sculpture by exploring the boundaries between sculpture, photography, film, action and performance, between three-dimensionality and two-dimensionality. Media such as photography and video play an essential role in his work by reflecting and thematising the ephemeral, processual and temporary character of his ‘sculptural actions’ and transforming the performative into the object-like. He therefore refers to his photographic works as ‘photographic sculptures’.
