The exhibition ‘Pictures from Theresienstadt. The illustrated diary of Gisela Rottonara (1873–1943)’ displays impressive drawings that serve as silent testimonies to everyday life, suffering and humanity in the Theresienstadt ghetto. Gisela Rottonara was deported to Theresienstadt in July 1942 and began keeping a drawn diary under catastrophic conditions. Shortly before her death in January 1943, she gave 63 pencil drawings to a fellow prisoner; they remain in the family’s possession to this day and are now on public display in Slovenia for the first time. The exhibition is part of the programme ‘Shoah – We Remember 2026’ and is being held in cooperation with the Austrian Cultural Forum Ljubljana, the Institute for Jewish History in Austria, From House of Worship to Cultural Centre | Former Synagogue, the Province of Lower Austria, the Maribor Synagogue and the Municipality of Maribor at the Maribor Synagogue.
