The Kurdish term Zozan means summer pasture; it is also the title of the project of the same name, which is based on comprehensive multimedia documentation of everyday Kurdish culture by Werner Finke and Mehmet Emir, created between 1964 and 2024 in Turkey. It reflects traditional ways of life and socio-political transformations. ZOZAN addresses and (re)presents traditional forms of mobility and recent forms of migration in Kurdish societies. ZOZAN combines art-based research, artistic practice and socio-anthropological approaches. Over the course of the four-year project, artistic interventions based on these collections were organised. A total of 25 artists conducted eight workshops with selected audiences in various Kurdish and European institutions. The more than 100 participants addressed issues of identity and migration, memories of past ways of life and violence, as well as cultural heritage and current challenges of globalisation in their drawings, collages, objects, texts, photos, films, installations and much more.
