This year, internationally renowned artist and Salzburg resident Georg Baselitz celebrates his 88th birthday. Reason enough for the Museum der Moderne Salzburg to dedicate two exhibitions to him at its two locations. They span the arc from his early drawings to his monumental late work. The exhibition at the Museum am Mönchsberg contrasts the smaller-format drawings in the Rupertinum with Baselitz’s late, large-format paintings. The artist painted these over the last ten years. The impressive double portraits and pendant paintings in particular reflect themes such as age, weakness and transience – and, not least, the artist’s own biography and that of his wife Elke.
