The archaeological finds from the site of the former Liebenau camp are silent witnesses to history – and they are at the heart of the exhibition. During the Nazi era, the Liebenau camp was a camp for resettlers and forced labourers, but also a scene of Nazi crimes. Many of the finds date from these years, others from before or after. Under the motto ‘Excavating and Remembering’, the exhibition aims to question the past and explain its significance for our present. Curated by Susanne Lamm and Annette Rainer, the exhibition invites visitors to actively participate in this dialogue and help decipher the finds. This reveals the importance of joint action, open discourse and civil society participation. Only through multiple perspectives, self-reflection and cooperation between academia, civil society and politics can a strong culture of remembrance emerge that protects and actively shapes democracy.
