The past has always held a great fascination, and certain eras are imbued with a certain romanticism. The special exhibition Graz 1699 at the Archaeology Museum transports visitors to the lively atmosphere of the city of Graz in the 17th century and offers an impressive, immersive experience. The focus is on a digital reconstruction of Baroque Graz, based on historical copperplate engravings and enriched by selected archaeological finds from Graz city centre. For the people of Graz, the visualisation will have a special recognition value: some iconic buildings, such as those on Graz’s main square, still exist today, while others have long since disappeared. This innovative presentation builds a bridge between the World Heritage Sites of Eggenberg Palace and the vibrant heart of Graz’s historic centre. Curated by Sarah Kiszter and Daniel Modl, the exhibition allows visitors to experience part of the provincial capital’s rich history in a completely new and captivating way.
