Ulrike Ottinger, who can look back on more than six decades of artistic work, is regarded as one of the most significant avant-garde contemporary filmmakers of her generation, having gained renown particularly through her cinematic work. In doing so, she developed a non-linear and, at times, surrealistically bizarre film style. Ottinger’s so-called Berlin Trilogy, created in the late 1970s and early 1980s, will be screened over three consecutive evenings as part of this year’s Galerientage in Graz, also known as aktuelle kunst in graz. The trilogy comprises the films Portrait of a Drinker (1979), Freak Orlando (1981) and Dorian Gray as portrayed by the yellow press (1984), featuring the actors Tabea Blumenstein, Delphine Seyrig, Magdalena Montezuma, Veruschka von Lehndorff, Eddie Constantine, Nina Hagen, Orpha Termin and Kurt Raab, as well as the composer Peer Raben.
