This special exhibition explores the cultural-historical, scientific and artistic aspects of the theme ‘BLOOM’ in a floral, aesthetic and critical manner. Drawing on a variety of genres, this project explores ‘blooming’, ‘beautifying’, ‘enticing’, ‘growing’ and ‘inspiring’, and examines where we encounter different kinds of flowers with all our senses in our everyday lives. In doing so, the flower is viewed not only as an aesthetic object, but also as a mirror of social developments, as a political symbol or an expression of human emotions – from love to grief, from hope to transience. The exhibition offers encounters with extraordinary floral personalities and their symbolism – from the star-flowered daffodil and its scent to the Daffodil Festival, from the daisy, which symbolises innocence, purity and love, to the crocheted bouquet, lovingly handcrafted as a gift.
