The special exhibition “Made in Austria: Furniture Design 1948–1960”, curated by Eva B. Ottillinger, transports visitors straight back to the 1950s. The exhibition features more than 130 objects spanning the official style of the Second Republic, furniture reflecting the espresso culture of the time, and modern home furnishings for everyone. Just a few years after the end of the Second World War, a vibrant Austrian furniture culture began to develop. Austrian furniture design was characterised by high-quality craftsmanship, a wide variety of furniture forms and good design, even in affordable products. At that time, modern furniture design was still predominantly in the hands of architects. The exhibition features designs by the architects Anna-Lülja Praun and Margarete Schütte-Lihotzky, as well as by the architects Carl Appel, Carl Auböck (III), Erich Boltenstern, Max Fellerer, Oswald Haerdtl, Julius Jirasek, László Mazák, Otto Niedermoser, Oskar Payer, Roland Rainer, Oskar Riedel, Franz Schuster, Karl Schwanzer, Emil Stejnar, Hans Wölfl and Eugen Wörle.
