In Real Life / Rupertinum, Salzburg

(c) Allen Sekula

Reopening 08.12.2020 until 14.02.2021.

The Rupertinum Generali Foundation Study Center is hosting an exhibition revolving around the theme of photo books. “At last we meet IRL!” Sentences like this one from the (post-)Corona era show how great our need for “real” life is. The chat acronym IRL (In Real Life) stands for the promise that behind digital life there is the tangible “real” life waiting. But often this is a reality full of hardships and contradictions. The complexity of social conditions is a central theme of photo books. Artists adapt ethnographic methods and search for traces in social milieus. The exhibition shows examples of such narratives, which at the same time pose the question of how realities of life can be translated into the medium of the photo book. The exhibition was curated by Stefanie Grünangerl and Jürgen Tabor.
